Farida Tarana, daughter of Haji Abdul Wahed, was born in Herat in 1982. She was very young when forced to migrate to neighbouring Iran. She went to a school in Iran at the age of 7 and finished her year 12 in 2002. For three years, she was a director of the Khwaja Abdullah Ansari NGO, which is one of the larger cultural and educational institutions for Afghans in Meshad, Iran. She has always been interested in music from a young age, and when she was 12, she studied music with Jalil Delahang (an Afghan musician) for a period of 2 years.
With the changed political circumstances in Afghanistan after the fall of the Taliban, Farida returned to her country of birth and started studying again under Ustad Jawad Tabesh, a classical Afghan musician. In 1385 (2007) with all of the difficulties faced by many Afghans, she participated in the second season of Afghan Star and was successful in making it all the way to the number 8 position.
Farida Tarana has been pursuing music with passion and interest and is currently working under the direction of Nazir Khara and Mehdi Yar to continue her musical studies.
Her first ever single is the song Qalbam Fedayat, which has been recently produced by Barbud Music in its Kabul studios. IT is currently being broadcast on Tolo TV, Lemar TV and Arman FM and has been composed and the lyrics created by Nazir Khara.
Farida likes Habib Qaderi and Wajiha Rastagar and amongst foreign performers, likes Shakira and Sebel Jan (Turkish artist).
